It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Mrs. Gudrun Beckh, a respected analyst, biologist, leader, and cherished colleague whose work left a lasting mark on the international honey and bee-products community. Mrs. Beckh passed away a few days ago, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism, dedication, and friendship that will be remembered by colleagues and friends around the world.

For many years, Gudrun Beckh stood at the forefront of efforts to advance the quality, authenticity, and scientific understanding of honey and bee products. As President of the International Honey Commission (IHC), she played a central role in fostering international cooperation among researchers, laboratories, regulators, and industry experts. Under her leadership, the Commission continued its mission of developing harmonized standards and analytical methods for honey and other bee products.

When she succeeded Werner von der Ohe as the President of the International Honey Commission in 2010, Gudrun Beckh embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and vision. She sought to expand the Commission’s work beyond its traditional European focus. Through her efforts, the international bee-products community became more connected, more inclusive, and better equipped to address emerging challenges.

Beyond her professional achievements, Gudrun was admired for precision and integrity. Those who worked with her remember not only her knowledge and attention to detail but also as woman that created an atmosphere of mutual respect.

Her influence extended far beyond meetings, publications, and technical discussions. She helped build a community united by a shared passion for bees, honey, and scientific excellence. The passing of Gudrun Beckh is a profound loss for the International Honey Commission and for the wider global apicultural community. Yet her contributions will continue to endure through the institutions she strengthened, the standards she helped develop.

As we remember Gudrun, we celebrate a life devoted to science, quality, and international cooperation. We honour her dedication and her leadership. Her memory will remain alive in the work she championed and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
